Two More Refs For 2010 Panel
Safa has once again been recognised by Fifa for the continued development of referees and assistant referees
Two young referees, Daniel Volgraaf from Upington and Zakhele Siwela from Alexander Township, have been added to the 2010 Operational Panel of referees and assistant referees.
This brings the number of referees to 11 in the 2010 Fifa Operational Panel for all Fifa and CAF-sanctioned matches. The compliment of the female panel of referees stands at three.
Safa’s chairman of referees Alpha Mchunu, says the development of female referees remains a priority for the referees department.
“Two new female assistant referees Wendy Modise and Assistance Sokhela have been added to the Supplementary Panel of Referees and should be ready to be nominated to the Fifa Panel of Female Assistant Referees for the Operational Season 2010/2011.
“Both Modise and Sokhela are now fully fledged members of the National Panel doing duty in the Premier Soccer League and the National First Division, and this is a sign that we are doing something right in this department,” said Mchunu.
Two South African referees, Daniel Bennett and Jerome Damon, as well as assistant referee Enoch Molefe, are officiating at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.
“The goal of the referees department is to produce referees that will officiate in the final of the 2014 CAF Africa Cup of Nations tournament,” added Mchunu.
