Erin maybe raped in flat
Stellenbosch – Murdered Matie student, Erin van Rensburg, 20, may have been raped in her Stellenbosch flat by her suspected attacker, Jacobus Eksteen, 24, before being overpowered, bound and later buried in a sand dune near Elands Bay.
Reliable sources said Van Rensburg and Eksteen had been at the flat alone on the morning of June 1. She may have been raped in the flat after taking a shower.
Her brother Byron, with whom she shared the flat, and her boyfriend, had earlier left to write exams. Her hands and feet were bound after the suspected attack and a piece of material was stuffed in her mouth.
Erin was later reported as missing.
Eksteen, from Upington and a final year accounting student, was arrested by police the following day on charges of kidnapping and murder.
Police noticed that he had suspicious scratches on his legs. He was apparently wearing shorts during Erin’s disappearance.
Police found suspicious evidence in Erin’s flat and the apartment was then sealed as a crime scene.
Her body was later found in Elands Bay after Eksteen gave information to the police.
Eksteen is being held at the Stellenbosch prison. He will appear in court again Today.
