Welcome to Upington’s Blog. My name is Pieter van Wyk and I am a proud resident of Upington. My family and I moved here over the December holiday in 2008. We fell in love with the town years back and when we finally got the opportunity to move here we grabbed it with both hands.
Because I have been living online for the last 20 years it was the first place I turned to when I needed some stuff done around the new house? I was shocked to find that people had to pay to advertise online! There where no directory of businesses and most searches for Upington resulted in either accommodation or tourism done by outsiders.
I decided to share my expertise with Upington and make the town more marketable online. The first step was to establish a place any business could advertise for free, an online database of businesses in the area. The second step is the blog (what you are reading now) and finally a forum where people can share thoughts and ideas.
The Directory is doing very well (probably because it is free) and had 25000 hits in the three months it’s been online. There are about 300 businesses registered and I hope to include all businesses one day soon!
The blog was intended as a place I can give free advice to anybody visiting Upington on places to stay, attractions and everyday life in Upington. If you have something special you would like to share from Upington or have a truly great guesthouse let me know and I will do a review for you!
I am currently working on the Forum and once online you will be able to ask question and get answers from the Upington People them self.
